Gloria's Picks
I love fiction -- novels and short stories, literary, classic (re-reads especially), experimental -- you name it. I end up missing most best sellers, and prefer serious and dark and exquisitely crafted sentences (poets who also write fiction like Michael Ondaatje and Anne Michaels come to mind). I like to read Israeli fiction in translation and have read Israeli authors for decades. I also enjoy reading widely in that field broadly called Judaica, though especially fiction. I love poetry. I enjoy reading memoir regularly (the new Patti Smith, Just Kids, now in paper was wonderful), and occasionally psych, non-fiction political work, history, women's studies, mysteries, and whateverelse my eclectic and wonderul book group comes up with. I love beautifully illustrated children's books -- Petra Mathers is a complete favorite, all of her books. I like browsing cookbooks and pretending I'll become a good cook. I've given Love Soup to lots of brides as gifts this year. And, not finally, I love gorgeous photography coffee table books as well (and you will never, ever find me downloading a book of photography on an e-reader).
