For the first time since 1977 -- and the eleventh time in the history of the Fiction award -- the judges for Fiction for the Pulitzer Prize could not agree on a winner, so no prize for fiction was awarded this year. Last year's Pulitzer winners were A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan (Fiction), Washington: A Life by Ron Chernow (Biography), The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer by Siddhartha Mukherjee (General Nonfiction), The Fiery Trial: Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery by Eric Foner (History), and The Best of It: New and Selected Poems by Kay Ryan.
