Roberta's Picks
I like fiction and nonfiction equally and for different reasons, I suppose. What really matters to me is good writing, and that of course is to be found in all disciplines. Lately I’ve been reading less fiction but loving it more. Two current favorite novels are Mink River by Brian Doyle and Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese. In the nonfiction world, Rebecca Skloot’s science story The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks rocked my world. I always read Oliver Sacks. I’m currently steeped in memoir by M.F.K. Fisher. I love everything that Molly Gloss and Robin Cody write. Two books I make everyone read are J.R. Moehringer’s The Tender Bar and Anne Fadiman’s The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down. I’m always reading a mystery and a cookbook.
