Darryl Lloyd, Ever Wild: A Lifetime on Mount Adams
We welcome Darryl Lloyd to Broadway Books with his new book Ever Wild: A Lifetime on Mount Adams. Ever Wild is a mix of adventure memoir with enlightening doses of human history, geography, geology, botany, and a call for protection. Lloyd is the foremost authority on Washington State's Mount Adams, a sometimes overlooked but never forgotten hulk of a mountain known as Pahto to its earliest inhabitants. He grew up on a ranch at the base of the mountain and devoted his life to learning about the mountain -- observing the ebb and flow of its glaciers, photographing the play of light, wandering lush meadows and old-growth forests, hiking boulder-strewn slops, and scaling icefalls. In this gorgeous new book, published by Carpe Diem Books, Lloyd shares his knowledge and his passion with us, as well as many photographs of the mountain through time.
Darryl Lloyd first explored the foot of Mount Adams as a toddler on the loose, but he and his twin brother, Darvel, have been earnestly hiking and climbing since boyhood, and they’ve spent most of their adult lives inviting others to join in. His comprehensive knowledge of Mount Adams is highly regarded by leaders in diverse scientific disciplines. For nearly fifty years, he has brought the mountain to the people through talks and slide shows attracting thousands, and his writings and stunning photography have appeared extensively in print. With his brother, Lloyd founded the non-profit Friends of Mount Adams in 2004, promoting protection, scientific research, and stewardship of Mount Adams. Lloyd holds a Master of Marine Affairs degree and makes his home in Hood River.
