Celebrating Independent Bookstores!
Join the party!!!
Independent Bookstore Day might look a bit different in this pandemic year, but it's still about celebration--celebrating books, authors, bookstores, and YOU, our wonderful readers! This one-day national party includes more than 600 local bookstores around the country, and we at Broadway Books are excited to be a part of the celebration.
This year there will be three components to the celebration:
- At Broadway Books we'll be offering specials over three days: Friday through Sunday, August 28th-30th (Sunday is online only).
- There will be online events taking place at a national level.
- Our digital audiobook partner Libro.FM will be offering free digital audiobooks.
You can read more about each of these components below.
Broadway Books Activities
At Broadway Books we are offering a variety of celebratory specials:
*Spend $50 or more (online or in the store) on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday (August 28-30) and be entered into a drawing for a signed book by a local author. Just indicate in the comments box which book you would like to be eligible to win. Place multiple orders of $50 or more over the course of the weekend to enter multiple drawings or multiple times. (To shop in the store on Friday or Saturday, you must schedule an appointment. The store is not open on Sundays, so only online orders can be placed that day. Online orders can be placed 24/7 every day.) The books in the drawing are Verge by Lidia Yuknavitch, Red Clocks by Leni Zumas, In Praise of Difficult Women by Karen Karbo, Think Like a Rocket Scientist by Ozan Varol, Unpresidented by Kieron Dwyer, and Klawde: Evil Alien Warlord Cat by Johnny Marciano and Emily Chenoweth. Remember, on any order of $50 or more, be sure to indicate in the comments box which book drawing you would like to enter.
*Anyone shopping in the store on Saturday (by appointment only) who spends $50 or more will get a free Independent Bookstore Day totebag (while supplies last)!
*Purchase a Broadway Books "Books Save Lives" t-shirt at a 20% discount--only $16!-- Friday, Saturday, or Sunday (August 28-30). Click here to order t-shirts (the discount only applies on August 28-30, for online or in-store purchases).
*Buy a surprise grab bag of ARCs by genre (adult fiction, adult nonfiction, mystery, middle readers, and young adult) for just a $10 suggested donation. (ARCs are Advance Reader Copies provided by publishers to enable us to read books prior to publication.) The money raised through these donations will go to Literary Arts Youth Programs. Each bag will contain at least three ARCs. The surprise bags can be purchased online starting Friday morning or outside our store on Saturday between 10 and 4. Online orders for these grab bags are curbside pick-up only; these bags will not be mailed or delivered. These grab bags are nonreturnable.
*Book lover swag: We will be selling exclusive Indie Bookstore Day swag starting on Saturday, including socks, special editions, and super-cute onesies. We will have these items on display in the front window, and they can be purchased during store appointments or on the sidewalk on Saturday between 10 and 4. These are only available in limited quantities, and when they are gone, they're gone! We also have buttons, bookmarks, 2021 literary-themed calendars, notecards, and word games in the store that can be purchased over the phone or when you make an appointment. Independent Bookstore Day 2020 t-shirts, sweatshirts, and face masks can be purchased through this link.
