Kim Stafford and John Morrison, A Virtual Event

A Zoom Poetry Evening with Kim Stafford and John Morrison

Please join us for an evening of poetry, music, and possibly even a little film, as we welcome Portland poets Kim Stafford and John Morrison to the Broadway Books virtual stage on Monday, April 19th, at 4:30 Pacific Time. It's National Poetry month, and we're going to have some poetic fun to celebrate! This evening is a red night, as Kim's book is published by Red Hen Press and John's is published by Redbat Books.

In Singer Come from Afar, Stafford considers war and peace, pandemic struggles, Earth imperatives, a seeker's spirit, and forging kinship. The former poet laureate of Oregon, Stafford offers tools for connection with the self, the community, and the Earth. Kathleen Dean Moore, author of Earth's Wild Music, has this to say: "I love this book. Kim Stafford writes from a deep well of gratitude and human goodness. Some of his poems are furious, some are sly and funny, some are simply beautiful, and all create a space for readers to catch their breath and reflect on the glories of this lovely, reeling planet and the sins against it. What greater gift could a poet give a worried, weary world?"

John's new collection of poems is entitled Monkey Island. His first book, Heaven of the Moment, was a finalist for the Oregon Book Award for Poetry. Carl Adamshick, author of Birches, says John's poem's are "a little break from the wind, a pause from the chaos, a two-person picnic as we slowly make our way to the grave.”

John C. Morrison teaches for Portland Community College and at the Attic Institute as an Associate Fellow. He is also an associate editor for the fabulist journal of literature, Phantom Drift. Kim Stafford is a writer and teacher in Oregon, the founding director of the Northwest Writing Institute at Lewis & Clark College, and the former Oregon Poet Laureate.
