We are pleased to welcome two Oregon Poets: Peggy Perdue, who will be reading from her debut collection Comfort (published by All Caps), and John Brehm, who will be reading from his latest book Dharma Talk: Poems (published by Wisdom Publications). This book is a Cover to Cover event as part of the Literary Arts Portland Book Festival. Please check out the full festival schedule, including other Cover to Cover events, at pdxbookfest.org.
Comfort cultivates the rocky but fertile soil of grief, motherhood, and longing. These poems delve into our relationships, from people we've loved and the places we've lived, to our most essential selves.
Peggy Perdue was a 2017/18 Atheneum fellow in poetry at the Attic Institute of Arts and Letters in Portland. Trained as a journalist, she has a BS in English-Journalism and has worked for Portland Monthly, Willamette Week, Chattanooga Times Free Press, and more.
John Brehm is the author of three previous books of poetry: Sea of Faith, Help Is on the Way, and No Day at the Beach. He is also the author of a book of essays, The Dharma of Poetry: How Poems Can Deepen Your Spiritual Practice and Open You to Joy, and the editor of the anthology The Poetry of Impermanence, Mindfulness, and Joy. With his wife, Feldenkrais teacher Alice Boyd, he leads mindfulness retreats that incorporate Feldenkrais Awareness through Movement lessons, meditation, and mindful poetry discussions. You can read more at johnbrehmpoet.com.
Sadly, we have just learned that Peggy will be unable to read at this event. John will be reading solo, and we will have copies of Peggy's book. Get well, Peggy! We will miss you.
