Taylor Zajonc, The Maw
We welcome maritime historian and world traveler Taylor Zajonc to the store on Tuesday, June 19th, at 7 pm to read from his newest thriller, The Maw.
The novel features disgraced historian Miles Luttrell, who finds himself on an expedition with a group of cave explorers traveling into the largest underground system in Africa, attempting to solve the century-old mystery of the disappearance of famed explorer Lord Riley DeWar. When a storm hits the surface base camp, the explorers are stranded in a pitch-black realm of twisting passages nearly two thousand feet underground.
As a maritime historian and recognized deep-sea shipwreck and treasure expert, Zajonc has contributed research and methodology for some of the most important shipwreck finds of the past decade, including World War Two treasure ships SS Gairsoppa and SS Mantola and the British naval ship HMS Victory. His fascination with exploration began when he joined a Russian expedition to the deepest archaeological site on the planet, descending nearly three miles into the abyss of the Bermuda Triangle aboard a Soviet-era submersible.
Zajonc, who lives in Portland, is the author of two previous thrillers featuring deep-water salvage diver Jonah Blackwell: The Wrecking Crew and Red Sun Rogue.
