Todd Moss, The Shadow List
In partnership with The World Affairs Council, Broadway Books is pleased to host Todd Moss, reading from his new thriller The Shadow List, the fourth to feature State Department crisis manager Judd Ryker. Have you ever received an email from a Nigerian prince or a Russian oligarch promising easy money? We all laugh when such emails pop up in our inbox. And we wonder how anybody falls for these things. But scams are no laughing matter; they're one of the biggest organized crime rackets in the world. And they can be deadly. State Department crisis manager Judd Ryker has fallen right into the middle of one. The disappearance of a young American banker in London sends Ryker into the heart of a corruption scandal in Nigeria. At the same time, his CIA agent wife Jessica finds herself chasing a Russian master criminal known as the Bear. Unbeknownst to either of them, they are pulling at two ends of the same lethal thread, a staggeringly vicious enterprise of piracy, extortion, and murder.
Todd Moss was formerly Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, where he was the top American diplomat in West Africa. Now he draws on his real-world experiences inside the U.S. Government to bring to life the exhilaration -- and frustrations -- of modern-day foreign policymaking. He is currently Senior Fellow at the Center for Global Development in Washington DC and a nonresident scholar at Rice University’s Baker Institute. In addition to the Ryker thriller series, he is the author of several nonfiction books on international affairs. Todd holds a PhD from the University of London and a BA from Tufts University. He lives in Maryland with his family.
